Artist Statement:
I have expressed myself through drawing and painting since my earliest memories. Throughout a lifetime of travel I have never stopped making images of my experiences. I see my body of work as a huge collage depicting the world with my particular slant on it, a pictorial diary.
In the process of painting, I seek out the nature of the paint, the brush, the canvas, and allow them to tell their own story as they enable me to tell mine.
Biography:
Right after getting my degree in art from the University of Washington, I sailed to the Baja on a 22-foot sailboat. I spent the next seven years living and working on sailboats, cruising from British Columbia to the Sea of Cortez.
After 7 years as a cruising sailor, I joined the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and spent the next eight years sailing on research ships. My work took me from the Arctic to the Antarctic, from ports in Siberia and Alaska to Chile and Antarctica.
In 1995 I came ashore to settle in the Northwest with my husband and to paint in my Hood Canal studio. I love to camp, kayak, and explore the beaches and forests of the Olympic Peninsula. I find the landscape a continual source of inspiration in my art.
My work can be seen at Collective Visions Gallery in Bremerton, Washington, and in private collections nationwide.
